So you wanna go vegan but you LOVE your cheese and don’t want to give it up? Thankfully, you don’t have to! Vegan cheese is a hot product in the plant-based world and not wanting to feel left out, I decided to give the Earth Grown brand from Aldi a try! Read on for my review of the taste, texture, and smell of vegan cheese!
The Taste of Vegan Cheese
At the first bite, you taste a hint of coconut but with the second bite, it really does taste like mozzarella and also, I didn’t notice the coconut flavor as much. When melted the “cheese” taste is definitely more pronounced. Above all, I really liked the taste and I think you’ll like it too!
The Texture of Vegan Cheese
In contrast to real mozzarella cheese, the texture of vegan cheese is a bit dry and not as flexible. If you watch my video review below, you can see how fragile it is. This cheese is great for sandwiches, crackers, pizza, or even ripped apart and melted for a hotdish!
The Smell of Vegan Cheese
Unlike real cheese, vegan cheese smells very delicate. The pungency of real cheese is unmistakable whereas the vegan counterpart does not command your attention until you hold it up close. I think it smells good but there would be some who say it smells like coconut.
Conclusion
Without a doubt, vegan cheese has come a long way in tasting authentic and it really does smell and taste like real cheese but having had the real deal before, you can’t replicate it 100% so when you try vegan cheese, don’t have your expectations too high; just appreciate the contrast of flavors and enjoy it! Leave me a comment sharing your favorite vegan cheese and until next time, we’ll see you in the kitchen!
